birth | Fort Worth’s Virtual Queer & Trans Inclusive Lactation Workshop is here to help LGBTQIA+ parents and fellow birth professionals navigate the challenges of learning infant feeding options in a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment.


Parent Classes

Dates: First Saturdays - June 3, July 1, Aug. 5, Sept. 2, Oct. 7, Nov. 4, Dec. 2
Time: 3pm-5pm
Cost: $65, Medicaid discount available - email info@birthfortworth.com for information.

- Nutritional Composition of Human Milk
- Basics of a Good Latch
- Hunger Cues
- Pumping
- Lactation following Gender Affirming Procedures
- Inducing Lactation
- Bonding for the non-gestational and/or non-lactating parent(s)
- Milk Expression
- Local safe healthcare providers for followup/further resources
- Q&A Portion

Partners, surrogates, and support people are welcome and encouraged to attend.

 

Classes for Birth Professionals

This class is designed specifically for birth professionals - IBCLC, midwives, doulas, lactation educators, and parent educators. If you work with lactating individuals in a professional setting, this class is for you. 3 hours of continuing education credits have been requested for IBCLCs in 2023. Reach out for more details.

Dates: Third Thursdays - Feb. 16, Mar. 16 (SOLD OUT), Apr. 20, May 18, June 15, July 20
Time: 6-9p
Cost: Each registration from healthcare provider is $75, with each ticket funding a free or $5 ticket for layperson using medicaid.

The class will be taught by Dr. Aliena (Ali) Davis (she/they), a community lactation educator with experience as an EMT and as a prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric chiropractor.
